Jadeja and Siraj lead India to quick win in Ahmedabad
1st Test India vs West Indies: India dominates first Test, defeating West Indies by an innings and 140 runs with Jadeja and Siraj's stellar performances in Ahmedabad.
India crushed West Indies in the Ahmedabad Test, winning by an innings and 140 runs in just over one session on Saturday, October 4. After declaring with a lead of 286 runs overnight, India bowled out West Indies in just 45.1 overs to start their World Test Championship campaign with a bang. Ravindra Jadeja took 4 wickets for 54 runs, Mohammed Siraj grabbed 3 for 31, and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 2 for 23.
From the start, Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj bowled tight lines, making life tough for the West Indies openers. Tagenarine Chanderpaul tried to pull a short ball from Siraj but was brilliantly caught by Nitish Reddy at short square leg. Soon after, Shubman Gill brought Jadeja into the attack, and he struck quickly. John Campbell flicked one straight to Sai Sudharsan at short leg, and Brandon King edged a spinning delivery to KL Rahul at slip. West Indies were struggling at 34 for 3.
Kuldeep Yadav then showed his magic. Dhruv Jurel kept telling him from behind the stumps that the batters couldn’t read him well. Roston Chase was proof of that. After facing two sharply turning deliveries, he misjudged the third one, which turned less, and got bowled as his off-stump was knocked over.
India’s fielding was top-notch too. Yashasvi Jaiswal took a diving catch at backward point to dismiss Shai Hope, who edged a cut shot off Jadeja. Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves managed to take West Indies to 66 for 5 by lunch.
After the break, Athanaze and Greaves tried to bat more sensibly. India brought back Bumrah and Washington Sundar. Sundar got Athanaze to edge one back to him while trying to play against the spin. Siraj then trapped Greaves LBW with a perfect yorker. Just two balls later, Jomel Warrican tried to hit big but lost his bat and his wicket, giving a simple catch to Gill at mid-off.
Johan Layne swung his bat for a few runs before Jadeja returned and got him out with a catch to Siraj. Jayden Seales also tried to go big, scoring 22 off 12 balls, but ended up hitting one straight back to Kuldeep.
India’s bowlers and fielders worked together brilliantly to seal a dominant win.
