Ireland Selects Five New Players for Bangladesh Test Team

Ireland Selects Five New Players for Bangladesh Test Team

Ireland is all set for their Bangladesh tour that is going to happen next month, and now they have named their five likely fresh faces for their 15-man test squad. Along with that, it has been confirmed that Mark Adair and Josh Little are also fit for the following T20I series.

Ireland didn't have their two main fast bowlers for the recent T20 matches against England, but they are now both ready to play for Paul Stirling's team as they get ready for next year's T20 World Cup. Adair had knee surgery in August, while Little was dealing with a side injury.

Ireland will play a multi-match Test series for just the second time. New players Cade Carmichael and Stephen Doheny, all-rounder Jordan Neill, and left-arm bowler Liam McCarthy are getting their first call-ups. Additionally, legspinner Gavin Hoey, who hasn't played in Tests yet, is back in the squad.

Andy Balbirnie will be the captain, and Ireland has won their last three Test matches since February 2024.

Regarding this, Ireland Men’s selector Andrew White showed his encouragement for the test cricket and said that he is excited that test cricket is on the horizon, and he is excited about it, and with that, the team is looking forward to seeing Cade Carmichael included in the test squad, followed by his ODI debut that was against West Indies in the year start.

He added, Cade has not only had a great season, but he has also shown the skills needed to be an international cricketer in this format. Earlier this year, he scored an impressive century against Afghanistan A in a four-day match in the UAE. Anyone who watched his two ODI matches against the West Indies can see his calmness and technical skills against fast bowlers.

Stephen Doheny is another player who has performed well domestically and has made several technical improvements that we hope will help him succeed in the future.

We will likely rely on all of our fast bowlers for the upcoming back-to-back Tests. Considering the number of injuries we've been dealing with and the busy schedule ahead, we need to carefully manage our players in what will surely be hot and humid weather.

This is only the second time we have played consecutive Tests as part of a tour - it's a challenge I know the squad will relish as they adapt to Asian conditions.

The T20I squad is mostly the same as the one that played against England, with a few changes—Mark Adair, Josh Little, and batter Tim Tector have been added. Neill and fast bowler Graham Hume have been left out.

Selector White explained that spin bowling will likely be more important this time, so Gareth Delany, Matthew Humphreys, and Ben White will be the main spin options. Since Adair and Little are back, Hume had to make way.

On the batting side, the 15-player squad includes Tim Tector and keeps Ben Calitz to strengthen the middle order.
