Axar Patel chosen as the new captain of Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025
Axar Patel has been with the Delhi Capitals since 2019 and was retained for Rs 16.50 crore.
Axar Patel has been chosen as the new captain of the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. He replaces Rishabh Pant, who moved to Lucknow Super Giants in the recent auction. Axar has played 82 matches for Delhi since joining in 2019 and has prior captaincy experience, having led Gujarat in 16 T20 matches and temporarily captaining DC in one game last year.
Pant, not retained by DC, was picked up by LSG for a record INR 27 Crore. Axar, retained by DC for INR 16.5 Crore, has a wealth of T20 experience with 274 matches, over 3000 runs, and 239 wickets, including a hat-trick in 2016.
Axar expressed his gratitude and confidence in leading the team, praising the balanced squad built during the auction. DC chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi and co-owner Parth Jindal lauded Axar’s leadership qualities and his growth as a player. With senior players like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc supporting the leadership group, they are optimistic about a successful season. DC will begin their campaign on March 24 against LSG, captained by their former skipper Pant.
