BCCI slams 50 percent match fee as fine on Virat Kohli for umpire outburst, admits to violation of IPL Code of Conduct Level 1

Besides the Sunday interesting tournament between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the match's controversial dismissal caused Virat Kohli frustrated and get levied a heavy fine by the IPL as code of conduct Level 1.

Virat Kohli on the field, was frustrated and displayed his anger by gesturing towards the umpire's decision on being given out. The Decision was executed on the delivery made by KKR team Harshit Rana, which seemed to be a waist-high full toss, which is usually considered a no-ball.

Kohli appealed against the decision and opted for the third umpire verdict, which went against the Royal Challenger Bangalore run-chasing partnership. Virat Kohli was dismissed at 18 off 7 balls.  However, Kohli's dismissal was a pivotal moment in the match, as its wicket significantly affected the RCB’s run-making strengthening.

A day after the last-ball thrill ended at Eden Garden, BCCI slammed 50 per cent of the match fees of Kohli for the IPL code of conduct violation under Level 1.

IPL releases the statement in the outburst against umpire by Virat Kohli. IPL management stated, “Mr Virat Kohli, a batter of Royal Challenger Bangalore has been fined 50 per cent of the match fees for breaching the code of conduct during the match 36 of Tata IPL 2024 against  Kolkatta Knight Riders on April 21, 2024.” The code of conduct was committed of Level 1 under Article 2.8 of the IPL stated Code of Conduct rule book. The statement further added that the Level 1 breach is the code of conduct where the Match Referee's decision is final and bidding.

Why Kohli dismissal was not given a no-ball by the umpire?

The third umpire monitors the appeal by utilizing the Hawk-Eye technology for the appeal stance. The TV umpire found that Harshit’s slow full-toss ball would have passed below the waist if Kohli had remained within the popping crease. The RCB Captain Faf du Plessis said in after match conference that he and Virat were on the crease and thought that the ball was higher than the waist
