India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: A High-Scoring Thriller as South Africa Win by 4 Wickets

South Africa chased down India’s big total of 358 to win the 2nd ODI by 4 wickets in a thrilling, high-scoring match.

The second ODI between India and South Africa turned into a complete run-fest, with both teams crossing 350 runs. India set a strong total of 358/5, but South Africa chased it down in the final over to win by 4 wickets. The match was filled with powerful batting, big partnerships, and some fearless stroke play from both sides.

India’s innings started with early pressure as both openers fell quickly. Rohit Sharma looked in great touch but was dismissed for 14 off just 8 balls, while Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled for rhythm and managed only 22 from 38 deliveries. However, the innings completely changed when Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad joined hands. The pair built a brilliant 195-run partnership that became the backbone of India’s total. Kohli played a classic and composed knock of 102 off 93 balls, while Gaikwad was fluent throughout his innings, scoring 105 off 83 deliveries. Their partnership lifted India out of trouble and pushed the momentum in India’s favour.

In the final overs, captain KL Rahul gave India the perfect finish. He remained unbeaten on 66 from 43 balls, hitting cleanly and rotating the strike well. Ravindra Jadeja also supported with a steady 24, helping India reach a strong total of 358/5 at the end of 50 overs. It was a well-constructed innings with contributions from the middle and lower-middle order.

South Africa began their chase confidently despite losing Quinton de Kock early for 8. Captain Temba Bavuma held one end and scored 46, but the real turning point came with Aiden Markram’s outstanding century. Markram anchored the innings beautifully with 110 off 98 balls, mixing caution with controlled aggression. Along with him, Matthew Breetzke added a crucial 68 off 64 balls, keeping South Africa in the game with clever shot selection.

The biggest boost came from young Dewald Brevis, who changed the match’s tempo with his explosive 54 off just 34 balls, hitting five sixes and putting the Indian bowlers under pressure. Even though wickets fell in the later overs, South Africa remained calm. Corbin Bosch’s quickfire 26 off 15 balls and Keshav Maharaj’s steady support ensured the chase was completed with balls to spare. The Proteas reached 359/6 in 49.2 overs, sealing an impressive win.

Overall, it was a thrilling high-scoring contest where bowlers had little margin for error. India’s strong batting effort, led by Kohli and Gaikwad, was overshadowed by South Africa’s fearless and well-paced chase. The match showcased the batting depth of both teams and delivered outstanding entertainment for fans.
