I’m likely to go with ten Doeschate against Bumrah
After losing a Lord's Test, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided an update on the availability of Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth Test match. Bumrah is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the series.
Ryan Ten Doeschate the India’s assistant coach, might have given us a hint that Jasprit Bumrah might play in Manchester for the fourth test. While talking to the press, he said that we’ll still decide in Manchester. We know we have him available for one of the last two Tests. It’s clear that the series is really important in Manchester, so we’re likely to want to play him.
"However, we need to consider several things: how many days of cricket we expect there, what gives us the best chance to win that game, and how this fits in with the Oval match. We need to look at the last two games as part of the series together."
India's team management is now turning its attention to Mohammad Siraj’s workload, especially after it's been confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will only feature in three out of five Tests in the ongoing series. Having played all three matches so far, Siraj’s physical strain is becoming a key consideration. Coach Ryan ten Doeschate praised Siraj’s unwavering spirit, describing him as “a lion” who gives everything when he has the ball in hand. He added that although Siraj may not always deliver eye-catching numbers, his presence and energy make him a vital part of the bowling attack. Because of that commitment, the team feels a greater responsibility to manage his workload carefully and keep him in prime condition.
Another factor complicating selection for the upcoming Manchester Test is Arshdeep Singh’s fitness. He sustained a cut while trying to stop a ball during practice, and its severity is still uncertain. Ten Doeschate said the medical staff had sent Arshdeep to a doctor, and depending on whether he requires stitches, the team will decide on its bowling combination closer to the match.
Adding to India’s concerns is the condition of Rishabh Pant, who injured his left finger while keeping during the third Test. The pain was evident even during his innings, and the team didn’t allow him to continue as wicketkeeper for the remainder of the game. Ten Doeschate acknowledged the discomfort Pant experienced but noted that with some rest, the injury should gradually improve. The final decision on whether he keeps in Manchester will hinge on his fitness. Dhruv Jurel remains an option, but if Pant is ready, he will take up both batting and keeping duties.
The team now faces a tricky balancing act as it plans for the fourth Test, navigating both injuries and player workloads while trying to maintain momentum in a tightly contested series.
