Heinrich Klaasen Ends His International Cricket Career
International Cricket Retirement: The 33-year-old confirmed on Monday that he is stepping away from white-ball cricket. Klaasen had already retired from Test cricket in January 2024
South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has decided to retire from international cricket to focus on his T20 league career.
His retirement was expected after he was left out of Cricket South Africa's (CSA) central contracts in April. He had already retired from Test cricket in January 2024 and was only on a white-ball contract until then.
"It’s a sad day for me as I step away from international cricket," Klaasen said. "I took a long time to make this decision, thinking about what’s best for me and my family. It was tough, but I feel at peace with it."
Klaasen remains a highly sought-after player in T20 leagues. He will play for the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) this summer and for Manchester Originals in The Hundred tournament.
Klaasen played 60 ODI matches and scored 2141 runs with an avg. of 43.69, including 4 hundreds, and he scored 1000 runs in 58 T20Is.
