ICC ODI Batters Rankings: India captain Rohit Sharma jumped over teammate Virat Kohli and South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen to rise to the third spot in the ICC ODI rankings for batters.
India's impressive unbeaten run in the Champions Trophy has boosted several of their players' standings in the ICC's ODI rankings. Four of their batters are now among the top eight in the world. Shubman Gill remains the world's top batter at No. 1. Rohit Sharma, who scored a match-winning 76 in the final and won Player of the Final, has moved up to No. 3. Virat Kohli, who scored 218 runs in the tournament, is now at No. 5, while Shreyas Iyer holds onto his No. 8 position.
India's spinners were key to their third Champions Trophy victory, and two of them have entered the top ten ODI bowlers' rankings. Kuldeep Yadav, who struck early in the final, is now ranked No. 3, while Ravindra Jadeja, known for his tight economy rate of 4.35 during the tournament, has climbed to No. 10.
India's upcoming schedule includes ODIs in Bangladesh this August, followed by matches in Australia in October and November. South Africa and New Zealand will visit India during December and January. With the 2027 ODI World Cup still far away, there are questions about whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue playing ODIs. However, Ricky Ponting believes Rohit isn't done yet. Ponting suggested that India’s loss in the 2023 World Cup final might motivate Rohit to aim for another shot at the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and ODI World Cup.
On the New Zealand side, their Champions Trophy run to the final has also paid off in the rankings. Captain Mitchell Santner is now ranked No. 2 among ODI bowlers after taking nine wickets with an impressive economy rate of 4.80. He's also moved to No. 4 on the all-rounders' rankings. Michael Bracewell, who scored a fifty in the final and was New Zealand's second-highest wicket-taker, is now No. 7 among all-rounders.
Rachin Ravindra, New Zealand's top scorer in the tournament, made big strides in the rankings too. He's now ranked 14th among ODI batters and eighth among all-rounders.
