India vs South Africa 1st T20I: Gill Arrives in Bhubaneswar on Sunday Night for a Comeback
Shubman Gill has reached Odisha ahead of the IND vs SA 1st T20I, marking his full recovery from the neck injury that sidelined him during the recent Test and ODI series.
Shubman Gill reached Bhubaneswar on Sunday night around 9 pm after a long day of travel. The India T20I vice-captain, who also leads the team in Tests and ODIs, is set to return to international cricket after missing the recent series against South Africa. Coach Gautam Gambhir said Gill is “hungry to go.”
Gill was named in the T20I squad for the five-match series starting December 9 in Cuttack, but his selection was subject to fitness clearance. He had suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata last month.
Gill has now fully recovered. He trained at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he batted and fielded before getting the green signal from the medical team.
India coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Gill’s readiness after the final ODI in Visakhapatnam, saying, “Yes, Shubman is ready to start. He is fit, fine, and hungry to go.”
Most players from both India and South Africa squads flew into Bhubaneswar from Visakhapatnam on a chartered flight on Sunday morning. Since Gill was not part of the ODI squad, he arrived later in the evening.
It has been found out that Hardik Pandya visited the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday evening for a closed-door practice session. He was among the first players to reach the city ahead of the match.
