Gill and Pandya Look Ready Before First T20I
T20I Update: Gill and Pandya Look Ready Before First T20I
Gill, who had been thrown out of action with a neck injury sustained during the opening test against the Proteas, was included in the T20 squad for the five-match series subject to his fitness.
India’s Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya looked fit and prepared ahead of the first T20I against South Africa in Cuttack on December 9. Their presence gives India a big boost before the start of the five-match series.
Gill missed the recent Tests and ODIs against South Africa because of a neck injury but has now fully recovered. He joined the team in Bhubaneswar on Sunday night. Coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Gill is “fit, fine, and hungry to go.”
Hardik Pandya also looked sharp. He was one of the first players to reach Cuttack and even had a private practice session at the Barabati Stadium. His return adds strength to both India’s batting and bowling.
Most players from both squads flew in from Visakhapatnam after the ODI series, while Gill arrived later since he wasn’t part of that team. The mood in the camp is positive, with everyone eager to start the series strongly.
Gill’s comeback is important because he is India’s captain in Tests and ODIs, and vice-captain in T20Is. Pandya’s fitness is equally vital, as he brings balance and power to the side.
With both stars fit and ready, India will hope to begin the series on a winning note against South Africa.
