Gambhir will rejoin the India team in Leeds on June 17
Last week, Gambhir had flown back to New Delhi due to a family emergency related to his mother’s health; now he is available with the team. India will take on England in the first of a five-Test series from June 20.
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, will rejoin the team in Leeds on Tuesday, just in time for the first Test match against England starting Friday. Gambhir had travelled back to Delhi on June 11 because his mother was hospitalised. Fortunately, her health has improved, and now he’s returning to lead the team.
Who Led the Preparations?
While Gambhir was away, assistant coaches Ryan ten Doeschate and Sitanshu Kotak, along with bowling coach Morne Morkel, handled training. Hrishikesh Kanitkar, coach of the India A team, also helped during a three-day practice match in Beckenham, which was played behind closed doors.
Team’s Preparation for the Test Series
-> Bowling coach Morkel praised the team’s energy and confidence ahead of the series.
-> Spinner Kuldeep Yadav highlighted how bowlers need to increase their workload after months of IPL matches.
-> Fast bowlers are practising 15-20 overs per session to get ready for Test match demands, and spinners are doing the same.
With Gambhir back and the team putting in solid preparation, India is gearing up for a highly anticipated series against England!
