England Women Outclass Sri Lanka by 89 Runs

Women’s ODI World Cup: England Vs Sri Lanka: A brilliant all-round performance from England Women, led by Natalie Sciver-Brunt’s classy century and Sophie Ecclestone’s magical spell, helped them beat Sri Lanka Women by 89 runs.

England showed complete dominance in all departments as they outplayed Sri Lanka by a big margin. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka chose to bowl first, hoping to restrict England to a low total. But England’s middle order, led by the experienced Natalie Sciver-Brunt, made sure the visitors chase a high-scoring target.

Sciver-Brunt played one of her finest ODI knocks, scoring a match-winning 117 off 117 balls, guiding England to a strong total of 253 runs. Later, England’s bowlers—especially Sophie Ecclestone—made life extremely difficult for Sri Lanka, who struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for just 164 runs.

England Innings:

England got off to a steady start, with Tammy Beaumont looking in good rhythm, scoring 32 off 29 balls. However, early wickets of Amy Jones (11) and Beaumont slowed things down. Heather Knight (29 off 47) played a supporting role, but it was Natalie Sciver-Brunt who completely changed the game.

Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings beautifully, mixing aggression with patience, and struck 9 fours and 2 sixes on her way to a brilliant century. Her timing and placement were top-notch as she rebuilt the innings almost single-handedly.

Towards the end, small but useful contributions from Sophia Dunkley (18), Emma Lamb (13), and Charlie Dean (19) helped England finish at 253/9 in 50 overs.

Among Sri Lanka’s bowlers, Inoka Ranaweera was the standout with 3 for 33, while Sugandika Kumari (2/67) and Udeshika Prabodhani (2/55) also picked up wickets.

Sri Lanka Innings:

Chasing 254 was never going to be easy, and Sri Lanka’s start reflected that. Their top order failed to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. Hasini Perera showed some resistance with 35 runs from 60 balls, while Harshitha Samarawickrama scored a fluent 33 off 37 balls, but no one else could stay long enough to make a real impact.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu (15 off 39) fell early, and from there, Sri Lanka kept sliding. The lower order tried to hang around, with Nilakshika Silva (23) providing a brief fight, but the asking rate kept climbing.

England’s bowling attack was too strong on the day. Sophie Ecclestone was almost unplayable, finishing with incredible figures of 4 for 17 in 10 overs, including three maidens. Charlie Dean and Natalie Sciver-Brunt chipped in with two wickets each as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 164 in 45.4 overs, giving England a comfortable win by 89 runs.

Brief Scores:

England Women: 253/9 (Natalie Sciver-Brunt 117, Tammy Beaumont 32; Inoka Ranaweera 3/33, Sugandika Kumari 2/67)

Sri Lanka Women: 164 all out in 45.4 overs (Hasini Perera 35, Harshitha Samarawickrama 33; Sophie Ecclestone 4/17, Charlie Dean 2/47)
