Delhi Premier League Gears Up for 2025 Season with Rishabh Pant Retention and Expanded Format
Delhi Premier League is likely to begin in the first week of August. The auction for DPL 2025 will be held on July 6, 2025, and schedule will be announced soon.
The Delhi Premier League (DPL) is set for an exciting second edition in 2025, promising a bigger and more competitive tournament organised by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). A major headline leading into the season is the retention of Rishabh Pant by the Purani Dilli 6 franchise, solidifying his status as a marquee player despite his uncertain availability due to national team commitments.
The DPL 2025 will see an expansion, featuring 8 teams this year, including two new entrants: Outer Delhi and New Delhi. They will join the existing six franchises: East Delhi Riders, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli 6, and Central Delhi Kings. This expanded roster is expected to bring even more talent and thrilling contests to the league.
Fans can anticipate a robust tournament structure, with a Round-Robin followed by a Playoffs format. Approximately 32 to 36 matches are slated to be played, all hosted at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, providing a consistent, high-quality venue.
The anticipation builds further as the DPL 2025 auction is scheduled for July 6, 2025, where teams will finalise their squads. The tournament itself is likely to commence in the first week of August 2025. Beyond Rishabh Pant, the league is also expected to feature other notable players, including the nephew of Virat Kohli, Aaryaveer Kohli, and the son of Virender Sehwag, Aryavir Sehwag, adding to the local flavour and intrigue of the competition.
Pant, who was a significant draw in the inaugural edition despite playing only one game, remains a key attraction for the DPL. His retention underscores the league's commitment to showcasing top talent and engaging fans, even as it navigates the complexities of player availability in a packed international cricket calendar. The DPL 2025 is poised to be a pivotal event in Delhi's cricketing landscape, fostering local talent and delivering exciting cricket action.
