Brevis Scores Quick Fifty as KKR's Playoff Chances Slip Away

IPL 2025: Skipper Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 48 off 33 balls while Andre Russell and Sunil Narine chipped in with 38 and 26 respectively for KKR to set the target 180.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off a thrilling two-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), keeping their playoff hopes alive while pushing KKR closer to elimination. The match was full of twists, explosive batting, and crucial bowling performances, making it one of the most exciting games of IPL 2025.
KKR’s Strong Start
KKR chose to bat first, knowing they needed to maximise the powerplay on a spin-friendly pitch. Rahmanullah Gurbaz set the tone, hitting a four and a six before getting dismissed for 11 off 9 balls. Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine continued the aggressive approach, taking KKR to 67/1 in six overs, hitting eight fours and two sixes between them.
However, CSK’s spin attack led by Noor Ahmad slowed KKR down. Noor struck twice in the eighth over, dismissing Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Later, he removed Andre Russell and Rinku Singh in the death overs, finishing with 4/31, a match-winning spell. KKR managed to post 179/6, a competitive total.
CSK’s Chaotic Start
CSK’s chase began dramatically, losing five wickets inside the powerplay. Urvil Patel, making his IPL debut, provided early momentum, smashing four sixes in an 11-ball 31. However, wickets kept falling, and CSK found themselves 62/5 at the six-over mark.
Brevis Turns the Game Around
CSK was struggling at 93/5 after ten overs, but Dewald Brevis changed everything in the 11th over. He smashed Vaibhav Arora for 6, 4, 4, 6, 6, 4, scoring 30 runs in a single over and reaching his maiden IPL fifty in just 22 balls. Before that over, KKR had a 78% chance of winning, but after it, CSK became the favorites.
Dhoni and Dube Seal the Win
Brevis fell in the 13th over, leaving CSK needing 53 runs off 47 balls. MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube took control, pacing the chase carefully. Dube hit three sixes, keeping CSK in the hunt. He fell in the penultimate over, leaving CSK needing eight runs off the last over.
With Dhoni on strike, Andre Russell bowled a full toss, which Dhoni hammered for six. He then calmly took a single, leaving Anshul Kamboj to finish the chase. Kamboj chipped the ball over mid-on, securing CSK’s first successful chase of 180+ since 2020.
