Asia Cup 2025: When and How Will India Get the Trophy?

India’s Asia Cup trophy remains locked in Dubai after a dispute over its handover by ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi.

India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan on September 28 in Dubai. But surprisingly, the team didn’t receive the trophy after the match. The issue began when Mohsin Naqvi, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), insisted that the Indian players accept the trophy directly from him. The Indian team refused, and the trophy was taken away from the stadium.

After the match, the trophy was relocated to the ACC office, located within the ICC Academy complex in Dubai. It’s currently locked up there. Naqvi has reportedly told the ACC staff that the trophy should not be moved without his permission. The office is staffed by just two employees, and the trophy remains untouched.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is aware of the situation. Officials have said they’ll decide what to do closer to the next ACC meeting. They haven’t taken any action yet, but may push for the trophy to be handed over properly. The BCCI is not powerless and could escalate the issue if needed.

To resolve the issue, the ACC held a meeting on September 30. It was decided that the five Test-playing nations under the ACC—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan—will discuss the matter during the ICC’s quarterly meeting in Dubai from November 4 to 7.

There’s uncertainty about whether Naqvi will attend the November meeting. He skipped the ICC Annual Conference in July, and some ACC members believe he might send a representative again. If he doesn’t show up, the issue may remain unresolved, and the trophy could stay locked away.

The situation is more than just about a trophy. It reflects tensions between cricket boards and could affect future tournaments. Everyone hopes the ACC members will find a solution and ensure India receives the trophy it rightfully won.
