Ranji Trophy Plate Group: Akash Kumar from Meghalaya scored a fifty faster than anyone in history

Ranji Trophy 2025: Meghalaya batter Akash Kumar smashed a half-century off 11 balls on Day 2 of his team's Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, recording the fastest fifty in first-class cricket at Surat's C K Pithawala Ground.

Meghalaya player Akash Kumar Choudhary made history on Sunday in the Ranji Trophy. He became only the third player ever in First-Class cricket (a long form of the game) to hit six sixes in a single over.

This amazing feat happened during their game against Arunachal Pradesh. He smashed the six maximums off the bowling of spinner Limar Dabi. By doing this, he joined an elite club that previously only included legends Ravi Shastri and Garry Sobers.

Even more remarkably, Akash didn't stop there. He went on to hit two more sixes immediately after the historic over, meaning he hit eight consecutive sixes in total a new record! This incredible power-hitting allowed him to reach his fifty (50 runs) in just 11 balls.

This makes his half-century the fastest ever recorded in the history of First-Class cricket, beating the previous 12-ball record set by Wayne Knight. Although his knock was the fastest by balls faced, he is second on the list for speed by time, taking nine minutes to reach the milestone.
