Seales and Hosein shine as West Indies take 1-0 lead
Bangladesh vs West Indies 1st T20I: Skipper Shai Hope and Rovman Powell helped West Indies script a compelling 16-run victory over Bangladesh in the first T20I at Chattogram on Monday.
West Indies captain Shai Hope led his team to a 16-run win over Bangladesh in the first T20I in Chattogram. He teamed up with Rovman Powell, who was playing his 100th T20I, to hit a flurry of sixes late in the innings. Their unbeaten 83-run partnership helped West Indies reach 165 for 3. In response, Bangladesh collapsed early, losing four wickets in the power play and getting bowled out for 149.
Jason Holder and Jayden Seales took three wickets each, while Akeal Hosein grabbed two early wickets in the powerplay.
Hope scored 46 not out from 28 balls, hitting one four and four sixes. Powell matched him with 44 not out off 28 balls, also hitting four sixes and a four. Their late hitting turned the game in the West Indies' favour.
Bangladesh’s early bowling success
Bangladesh started well with the ball, especially through Nasum Ahmed. Though he didn’t take any wickets, he gave away only 15 runs in his four overs and kept the scoring rate low. West Indies openers Brandon King and Alick Athanaze hit just one six each and stayed at the crease for over eight overs. Rishad Hossain bowled Athanaze for 34, and Taskin Ahmed dismissed King for 33.
Taskin then got Sherfane Rutherford out for a first-ball duck. Hope hit a couple of sixes after that, but West Indies still struggled to accelerate. Nasum finished his spell with another tight over in the 15th.
Hope and Powell finish strong
Hope attacked Rishad with two sixes and then smashed a Taskin delivery for another big hit in the 18th over. Powell joined the party with a massive 102-meter six off Mustafizur Rahman. In the final over, he hit Tanzim Hasan for three sixes in a row one off a full toss and two straight down the ground. West Indies scored 51 runs in the last three overs, turning the match around.
Bangladesh stumble early in chase
Bangladesh started their chase aggressively but lost wickets quickly. Tanzid Hasan was out after just five balls, thanks to a brilliant catch by Romario Shepherd. Litton Das was caught and bowled by Hosein, who also dismissed Saif Hassan in the next over. Holder then bowled Shamim Hossain, leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble at 42 for 4 by the end of the powerplay.
Late fight from Tanzim and Nasum
Bangladesh kept losing wickets. Khary Pierre bowled Nurul Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy was dismissed by Seales after scoring 28 off 25 balls. Tanzim Hasan tried to fight back with 33 off 27 balls, including a six and three fours. He added 40 runs with Nasum Ahmed, but Holder got him out in the 16th over. Nasum hit another boundary before Seales dismissed him.
Holder then removed Rishad Hossain, and the innings ended when Taskin Ahmed accidentally stepped on the stumps in the final over just after hitting Holder for a six in the 18th.
